Google Pixel 4a Features & Specs

The Google Pixel 4a promises to give you the best photographic experience with a mid-range device, as well as an improvement in hardware issues and, especially, to what is its level of design considering the generations that have come before this terminal.

You may be thinking that there are already many models in a very short time, and that they are all more of the same, but each of them has remarkable details that make them more suitable for certain types of users. And the 4a is no exception to this.

Design and construction

What stands out most about the design of the Google Pixel 4a is that it is, unusually, small. Arguably, it has a size we are not used to (144 x 69.4 x 8.2 mm), however, this gives us the possibility to handle it with one hand comfortably.
Because all the joints of this device are well finished, the touch is pleasant. The material that has been used is polycarbonate, both on its back and on the edges and on its buttons.

The construction of the Google Pixel 4 a gives us a rubbery finish, which makes it easy to scratch, or to catch the grease of the fingers. Its button panel is sufficiently outrageous, although the buttons do not dance, and feel solid, they have a click that emit when you press them too loud.

On its top we can find a headphone jack, while its USB-C port is reserved for its bottom. It can be said that it has a basic and simple finish, which actually does not displease in terms of aesthetics.

The Google Pixel 4a’s display is a 5.8-inch panel, whose resolution is Full HD+ and AMOLED technology. What we do miss is the 90Hz refresh rate, which would have been taken as the icing on the cake, but for the price of this device you get a pretty decent one.
The panel is very sharp, with vibrant colors, and gives a very good overall feel. One problem that can be named so the viewing angles, once we turn the mobile a little bit we have the rainbow effect, so we are losing the view.
Another problem that is noticeable at simple use is its maximum brightness, since the Google Pixel 4a does not look very good in the sun, and the brightness level leaves it far below in reference to its direct rivals. So it’s a point to consider if you’re outdoors a lot.
In its settings you can find the Attention to screen, option that will keep it on as long as you are looking at it. In some apps you’ll see a black status bar, and overall the symmetrical look this screen gives you is friendly enough.

To optimize the performance of the Google Pixel 4a the company has decided to bet on the Snapdragon 730, being a processor that in the past has demonstrated a very good performance. In short, it can be said that this device has a very good behavior, but it will not stand out neither in fluidity nor in performance.

And we don’t want to create a bad concept. This is a mid-range that, while it can handle anything, doesn’t take any steps forward or behind the pack. One thing that helps it is its 6 GB of RAM, as well as its base (and only) 128 GB of memory.

When you set out to use it you do realize that you don’t have a very powerful processor because some apps will make you wait a bit longer than usual. However, on issues of lag, jerks, or already very strange behaviors, if you do not notice anything.

The performance of the Google Pixel 4a can play against you depending on the intentions you have with this device. While it may not be the best for a gamer, for example, for someone who will only give it a common, daily use, it may not present any problems.

Fast charging.

The battery of the Google Pixel 4a is 3,140mAh, which would be 340mAh more than the Pixel 4. However, it is far from getting the 3,700mah of the Pixel 4 XL. However, the durability it offers us is not that it has much to envy to its big brother.

Thanks to the fact that the device does not have a very high refresh rate, that its screen is small, and the level of efficiency provided by the Snapdragon 730, you can comfortably reach about 6 hours of screen time. In the case of intensive use, with photos and 4G connection, it hardly drops to 5 hours.

We all know that this is not record-breaking data, and that there are already many other devices on the market with a higher amperage that give between 8 to 10 hours of use. But this is a battery that will get you through the day without much trouble.

One aspect that helps the autonomy of the Google Pixel 4a is the idle consumption, in the case that you are not touching it, this does not spend. It also offers a fast charge of 18W Power Delivery that, to be completed, will take just one hour.

Interface and functionalities

The interface of the Google Pixel 4a is very favored at the software level, we then have a very clean version of Android 10 that has been customized by Google. A strong point of Pixel is that many of its functions are exclusive, so we will not see them on other devices.

If we look at its desktop we will find a very clean look, with its characteristic glance widget that is responsible for displaying the day, month, temperature and pending events. Its search bar is below the dock, so we can also speak of simplicity.

Something that is very well integrated to the Google Pixel 4a is the Google Assistant. Although it does not have the option to press frames to invoke it, if we notice that it has a good performance, and much faster than on other Android terminals.

You will only have to say “Ok Google”.

Another feature of the Google Pixel 4a that may catch your attention is the Google instant transcription, which gives you the ability to transcribe text from any sound. But what shines the most about this one is the 3 years of OS updates that they have promised.

Among the multimedia details of the Google Pixel 4a we can highlight that it has dual stereo speakers, uncommon among mid-range devices. Its sound is then very correct, and ranks above a good part of its rivals.

Although not everything is perfect.

It can be mentioned that it lacks a little volume, and that it has very little bass. As well as that it distorts slightly when it is in the higher volume ranges. In tests it has reached peaks of up to 91 decibels.

The overall experience could be classified as very good.

The camera of the Google Pixel 4a if it makes us feel the absence of depth sensors, since only 12.2 megapixels are counted for everything. The spoiler we can give you is that we are facing the best camera in the mid-range.

The camera app has a simple and fast interface, very intuitive and with an artificial intelligence that works. It will suggest the night mode when it finds low light, when to change the angle of selfies, activate the astrophotography mode with the mobile still, among other great features.

It is also worth noting that the Google Pixel 4a features Live HDR+, so you have the opportunity to look at how the photo is going to look before you take it. The time to process the images after the shot is short, just a few seconds.

The video results with the Google Pixel 4a are very good, which we can appreciate especially if we compare them with those of its competitors. Its HDR+ acts just like with the still camera, making it virtually impossible to burn some of our work.

What you can expect then is excellence in detail, contrast and white balance. Not to mention that its stabilization function is synonymous with the highest quality. It’s a video experience that is capable of being enjoyed even with the front camera, so there’s nothing to envy.
